Barrio Congreso
Congress is an interesting neighborhood, which combines old cinemas, theaters and shops with an extreme political flavor. It is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, where the buildings still have that Europe aura. Av. 9 de Julio, separates Congress from downtown. At Av. 9 de Julio and Corrientes it is the famous obelisk, which rises above the oval Plaza of the Republic. The square is surrounded by Lavalle School President Roca (1902), the Palace of Justice (1904) and the Colon Theater (one of the world's most important lyric). Nearby is also the Temple of the Israelite Congregation, the largest argentine synagogue. Finally, it goes about ten blocks south of Plaza Lavalle to the Palace of Congress, along with its plaza and monument.
